What does it look like to work with the Colorado Springs Doula team?
Before the birth

After reviewing the details on your inquiry form, we'll reach out to you and let you know if we're available during your guess date window. If so, we'll send over our Meet & Greet calendar, where you can schedule a time to sit down with us for coffee (or virtually) to chat more!
Once we meet, we'll be sending over additional package and booking information for you to review. Submitting the contract and retainer reserves your due date on our calendar. From there, we're all yours!
Our team will keep in touch with you during your pregnancy and will be checking in around some of the bigger milestones. We're available to you anytime as a resource and listening ear! From recommendations for our favorite childbirth classes, to local chiropractors, massage therapists, pediatricians, lactation consultants and more, we've got you covered!
Once you enter your third trimester, we'll be reaching out to schedule your in home prenatal visit(s), where we can talk through your detailed birth preferences and how we can help you best achieve those at your birthing location, as well as address any lingering fears or questions you may have about birth. We'll also review the practical ways your partner can be involved in supporting you throughout the early labor process and when, what, and how to communicate with us during labor.

During Labor

The on call doula will keep in close touch with you and your partner throughout early labor and can advise you on the best strategies for this stage. Once you've moved into active labor and are ready for more hands on support, she'll head your way as soon as you're ready for her, whether this is in your home or place of birth.
Once with you, she'll continue to offer suggestions for physical comfort and labor progress; and can also help communicate with your midwife if you are birthing at Beginnings Birth Center or at home. She will offer guidance on when would be a good time to head to your intended place of birth as well as encourage self advocacy once there to make sure your birth wishes and voice are consistently heard.
Your doula will provide reassurance to you as you work through the phases of labor; instilling confidence in both you and your partner. Some of the hands on techniques she may use include: the rebozo, sacral counter-pressure, massage, hip squeezing, Spinning Babies specific strategies, hot/cold therapy, hydrotherapy, as well as emotional reassurance and encouragement that you've got this! If you're curious what exactly and practically this looks like; you can check out our client gallery here!
After your baby arrives, your doula will continue to stay with you until you and your family have eaten and are snuggled in bed and ready to rest. She can also help take initial pictures of you and your family and assist with breastfeeding.

Postpartum

The attending doula will continue to follow up with you after your birth to make sure your recovery is going well and that you and your baby are thriving! If an in home postpartum visit was included in your package, she will reach out to schedule that with you for whenever you are ready. We are also always happy to answer any questions regarding infant care and feeding that you may have, as well! If we can assist you in setting up a Meal Train for after your birth, we would love to get coordinated and sent out for you so that your friends and family can continue to support you in the initial weeks postpartum.
